PREFACE

My late friend, Margaret gave me a token of appreciation. I did not deposit her cheque — it is a keepsake to tell the story about our friendship of 16 years.

Eight months later, Florence (her younger sister) was adamant to fulfill her last wish by replacing the stale cheque with “压岁钱” (hongbao money) as blessings for the Year of the Rooster, 2017.

I got to know her through Florence (an artist) whom I met at an art exhibition in 2001. Back then, Florence was supportive of my cause and contributed her painting to support Cancerstory.com’s efforts in raising funds for Children’s Cancer Foundation. The old National Kidney Foundation (NKF) had also received three paintings from Florence with the help of Cancerstory.com.

Kindness is in their genes. She had made donations to charitable causes during her lifetime. In her memory, I wrote this book to spread the joy of caring and giving on her first death anniversary, 30 May 2017. I used the “压岁钱” to publish this book — her kindness lives on.

Twenty-eight copies of this book will be donated to the National Library Board in due course. Ten complimentary copies will be extended to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. As usual, some passionate healthcare workers and public hospitals, and the Ministry of Health will receive this last complimentary book — I am retiring.
